Installing a Swimming Pool Safety Drain

(To Comply With Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act)

Below is an old style drain cover

Here the gunite has been cut out to make room for the safety drain sump you will notice the top part of old drain plaster ring came loose so I had to cut plaster in a V shape to get a good mechanical bond for new plaster

Here is the new sump and cover. The original plumbing came from the right side in this photo so I had to make sure I kept original gunite sump free of debris to ensure flow

Below I have plastered around new drain but unfortunately, somehow water got into pool after I left and the wind blew dirt into pool so the installation was not as clean as I would have liked.

I sealed the equalizer line below and capped it with plaster which saved the owner about 500.00 over fitting a drain cover for it!
